Pigeon Conspiracy gets a mention in rock tune
|
SEATTLE - Chart-topping hard rock band the Special Guests have released a new single that makes reference to the Pigeon Conspiracy. Titled Question My Belief, the song is about the influence of mass media on one's personal beliefs. A lyric in the second verse is about the Pigeon Conspiracy.
"The song is about these people we're seeing more and more, these people addicted to the Pigeon Conspiracy," says frontman Ambrose Blacksmith in an interview over coffee with a PigeonConspiracy.com reporter on Capitol Hill in Seattle. "A lot of these people seem to have kind of lost touch with anything real, you know, you look in their eyes and there's nothing there anymore. People you know and love, changed. It's real and it's kind of scary."

The second verse and chorus of the song reads:
Your charity is poison
Winged bodies come clawing
Your smile is so foreign
The sky's tragedies falling
And do you know what is real?
Sitting watching your TV
And do you live in a dream?
Pigeons dying on the streets
I question my belief
I question my belief*
Blacksmith recounts the deterioration of his relationship with a girlfriend of five years. "She became caught up in this pigeon sh*t," he says, "to the point where there was no return. She went to this big rally at the Seattle Center and nothing was ever really the same after that. I think they hypnotised her. She was changed, somehow. And we had this moment, hiding from the rain under the Aurora Bridge, you know like right where the Fremont Troll is, and there was a whole bunch of pigeons and she freaked, just like f*cking lost it. We haven't spoken since. I heard she was laying out poisoned food and shooting pigeons. I guess this song is in some ways about her."
Whatever the case, the subject matter seems to have hit home as Question My Belief is rising steadily up modern rock charts across the United States.
