Chaos in Trafalgar Square as pigeons "attack"
|
LONDON - Pigeons overwhelmed tourists yesterday in Trafalgar Square as they descended to eat feed laid out for them. The Pigeon Resistance claimed this was "one of the most brazen attacks yet" and made calls again for the city's authorities to take a hard line on pigeons. In response, People Against Pigeon Abuse, UK (PAPA-UK) issued a statement saying that the birds' actions were "perfectly ordinary and not at all dangerous."
The incident began shortly after two o'clock when a flock of pigeons swept down from statues and other elevated positions around the square and gathered around some birdseed that had been laid out on the ground in contravention of the recently-passed Pigeons Act. According to sources, there were up to ten thousand birds involved in this single, concentrated movement.

Tourists and other visitors to the square were overwhelmed as wave after wave of the birds flew in and settled on the food. "It was really scary," said Californian tourist Kelly Ames, "at one point they were just flying all around me and I was pretty freaked out." PigeonConspiracy.com has learnt that the Pigeon Resistance has since contacted Ms Ames and offered her their free hypno-therapy recovery course.
A number of people reported being defectated on during the aerial stampede and several said they had been hit by pigeons. Many were concerned that diseases might have been transmitted to them and sixteen people were checked into hospitals later in the afternoon. All were found to be in good health.

The incident ended when four members of a Pigeon Resistance patrol squad arrived on the scene and broke up the pigeons' feeding by driving them away through shouting and sweeping large rakes through their ranks.
"The city must act," said Gus Jones, leader of the Pigeon Resistance in London. "Too much is at stake and incidents like this demonstrate that the pigeons are getting ready for their final assualt, and that they will stop at nothing. We ask for the support of all citizens who are prepared to make a stand on International Pigeon Day."
